History

Ruaha National Park, established in 1964, is Tanzania's largest national park, covering approximately 20,226 square kilometers. Originally gazetted in 1910 as the Saba Game Reserve by the German colonial administration, it was expanded and renamed Ruaha Game Reserve in 1946 under British rule. The park derives its name from the Great Ruaha River, which flows through its southeastern section, providing a vital water source for wildlife during the dry season.
